XB270HU frame rate capped to 110 fps in SLI at 2560x1440

Here is my issue in the best detail I can provide.

I have a Z97 4790k at 4.9 GHz stable with 32 BG of 2400 MHz ram stable and 2 EVGA GTX980 KingPins all water cooled.

Before I got this monitor and ran 3D Mark Fire Strike in test 1 on a 1080p 60 MHz refresh monitor with vsync off I would get frame rates from 135 to 147 fps. With the XB270HU in SLI mode I can't get over 110 fps in any bench mark test or game regardless of gsync on/off, vsync on/off or the refresh rate settings becontrolled by the application or not. I have tried all driver from 344.xx to the cirrent 353.06 with no changes. I bought a new display port cable to test, no change. I've used the unsigned Acer monitor driver and the PnP driver also, no changes.

IF I run with SLI disabled I can get over 110 fps in lesser stressful bench mark tests just as I should but even when I test with those lesser stressful (Cloud Gate is over 200 fps with a single card) applications in SLI I am frame capped at 110 fps without making any change other than switching SLI on.

I have called Acer support but to this time haven't be able to hold long enough to get a answer/help.

I'm trying to find out 1st how to access the factory menu to do a reset.

Even if both gsync and vsync are enabled and the monitor is set to 144 MHz refresh rate I should get a max fps of 144 regardless of single card or SLI mode.

I have a very acceptable screen with only normal glow in the lower right corner which doesn't bother me so I'm fortunate in have that and no pixel issues!

I'm not sure if this is a monitor issue, a gsync chip issue or driver issue. I've tried searches to see if there are other cases and can't seem to find any but maybe not to many people are running this monitor (single) in SLI mode and doing these tests to realize it's even happening.

I just ran SLI in 1080 mode (vrs 1440) and was NOT frame capped in SLI with gsync enabled - windowed (which is how Fire Strike ran) full screen mode in the NVidia control panel.

Just to be clear I had my monitor set to 1920x1080 in Windows 7 Pro 64 bit running the 353.12 drivers. IF I run 2560x1440 with the EXACT settings I am frame locked at 110 fps. My test 1 average fps was 121.46 at std clocks where at 2560x1440 at ANY clock the average fps would 110.xx.

As I had suspected and informed a Acer earlier it may be a 1440 setting issue and now I tested it to verify.

I hope all the work I AM DOING is benifical here. Smiley Wink

turned off gsync yet? gsync will cap your FPS like vsync.

Yes I have ...... when I change my desktop resolution to 1080 I have no cap on same tests in SLI only in SLI and only when the desktop resolution is set to 1440.

Also if my refresh is set to 144 and gsync is on and putting a cap on frame rates that cap should be 144 not 110 but in single card mode it doesn't cap the rates in tests that the card will do over 200 fps in. Smiley Wink

    Hi ssiperko,

This is a strange issue, but the monitor doesn't drive FPS. It can only refresh as fast as the technology allows. Even with a 60hz monitor, the video card can push out as many frames as it can. You see this often in something like counter strike where a monitor might be at 60, 75, 120, 144hz, but the game is designed around 250-300 FPS and pushes that if the system allows. Of course this is where tearing issues come into play.

What games are you seeing this on? I'm concerned about 3D Mark as it's testing and FPS scores are strange.

    Thanks,
    Cory

    Thanks Cory.

I agree with your statement as long as vsync is off on in the program used.

In Call of Duty Black Ops II I only get 60 fps on this monitor in 2560x1440 but 200 fps in 1980x1080. In the Sniper Elite V3 demo I can only manage 110 fps but that's a hard one to judge as my best runs are in the 114-115 fps range.

In 3D Mark Cloud Gate on the XB at 1440 with a single card I get over 200 fps but as soon as I go SLI with no other changes it's capped at 110 fps. It doesn't matter which card I use in single mode.

When I test on different monitor (I only have 1080's) in SLI everything runs as expected and the results are normal for my system as I have made hundreds of runs in the past 2 years. I had a 2560x1600 monitor that the XB replaced and it would also run normal in SLI mode in all these test and games.

It's not a technology issue with the parts that drive the frame rates in my box that's for sure. It's a refresh rate issue that's capping the rate to 110 fps in SLI.  If I can run over 200 fps with one card in any given test (Cloud Gate for instance) but am capped with SLI in the same test. That is UNLESS I drop the desk top resolution to 1080 then it runs normally, I believe something is wrong with the 1440 resolution settings or the gsync that is capping my rates.

I'll be testing Heaven later .... keep in mind this is all on a FRESH system overhaul of all drivers/software which was done to eliminate those variables.

Does this have something to do with your issue?

I'm not going to reply to the ULMB thread i made because its off-topic and I want a real reply from acer

Yeah, I was thinking of not taking the other thread further off course myself.

Nope that link isn't valid in my mind as BEFORE I got this monitor with these and my previous GTX 980's in SLI and Win 7 Pro I could get 135-147 fps in Fire Strike.

For giggles I just ran Cloud Gate with a desktop resolution of 2560x1440 on one card and scored:

    32896

    Graphics test 1 = 406.05 fps

    Graphics test 2 = 430.56 fps

    SLI score:

    18270

    Graphics test 1 = 110.27 fps

    Graphics test 2 = 110.65 fps

No other changes back to back.

These tests ended up in a windowed mode for some reason.

Desk top resolution of 1920x1440 SLI scored:

    21822

    Graphics test 1 = 145.01 fps

    Graphics test 2 = 144.59 fps

    SLI disabled score:

    32992

    Graphics test 1 = 411.26 fps

    Graphics test 2 = 435.28 fps

Desk top resolution of 1920x1080 in Fire Strike  SLI scored:

    18716

Graphics test 1 122.25 fps which is 10.41 fps less than on a 1080 monitor I ran.

G-Sync was off on all tests in this post run in Win 8.1.

BTW all the above test fps scores are averages across the test.

    I just ran Valley:

    1920x1080 SLI scored:

6235 with a average fps of 149.0, min 33.2 and max of 200.4.

    2560x1440 SLI scored:

4332 with a average fps of 103.5, min 24.0 and max of 114.6.

    1920x1080 single card scored:

6205 with a average fps of 148.3, min 48.0 and max of 232.8.

    2560x1440 single card scored:

4018 with a average fps of 96.0, min 29.1 and max of 183.5.

Ya, so I've been asking around, and I'm not finding any issues related to SLI, infact we haven't seen caps on SLI, but we're not using dual 980's or 3d Mark. Infact, I'm a little learly of 3d Mark as I don't want to see a score of FPS, I would be interested in games and what their draw FPS command is showing. I know Call of Duty has had some issues with capped framerates, but I don't play, so I don't know for sure.

I found your posts on overclock, but it didn't seem to pickup much steam, and with as many of these monitors in the field, plus the amount of traffic, I haven't found other similiar complaints. If we could find others that have the problem, we would have a better shot of identifying the issue and ultimately resolving it.

I'll keep my eyes open, and if users on overclock report similiar issues, please send them here, I can get more support from engineers if we're having a discussion on our forums about it.

    Thanks,

That's why I ran the Valley benchmark this morning.

I can run Heaven tonight but so far I'm not finding anything different.

All issues are SLI in a ....x1440 resolutions.

More info -- I can run back to back tests with no changes other than swapping monitors (2 seperate 1920x1080's I have for backup) and the tests run 100% normal for my system.

There is something wrong with this panel internally with the hardware. I would like to access the factory diagnositc menu to try a hard reset but no one seems to want to assist with that.

Drivers make no difference and all of them are 100% up to date.

This unit needs to be RMA'd but I'm scared to get a flawed panel with dead pixels or excessive backlight bleed.

So now I get push back telling me it's not the monitor. It's a Nvidia issue. I believe it's a G-SYNC problem which is IN THE MONITOR. I don't want a new panel as I'm happy with it compaired to the many others who haven't been due to hair/dirt/pixel issues/bleed problems.

I don't know how much I need to do to pin point the problem. Basic diagnositics point ONLY to the monitor. I don't care if the other test panels I use are connected via HDMI --- vsync is off which allows the tests to run to what ever max the cards will push. Acer can't/won't diag the issue because they don't have the hardware resources I have, see my eyes rolling over here, which is fine, I've already done it. Heck, everytime I get someone new they don't even understand what model I have and ask me to connect to a DVI port, um.... yeah OK, send me one as this monitor ONLY has a display port connection.

My monitor frame caps at 110 when in SLI mode, PERIOD. I don't care if it's the G-SYNC module or not. The monitor says Acer not Nvidia.

Three G-SYNC monitors being delivered today.

Two ASUS ROG SWIFT and a ACER XB280HK.

I will test them all back to back with links to the results. I guess doing a video of each might be helpful also.

    Hello

I have the same problem. I have two 660ti and my fps is locked at 85fps.

Tested in CSGO sli disabled I have 120-144fps with sli locked at 85fps. But when I set the resolution in csgo to 1080p then I have 120fps locked with sli enabled and when I set it to 720p in csgo then I have fps lock at 200fps. With 2k resolution in csgo with sli enabled and no gsync or vsync I have 85fps and a gpu usage of round about 30%.

It's no possible to force the two cards to push as many fps as possible with this monitor with or without gsync with my other 2k monitor I have no problems getting 200fps in csgo at 2k resolution but thats not a gsync and have only 60hz.

I'm saying it's GSYNC related but NO ONE is of any help because "we don't have that kind of hardware to test" like SLI is soooooooooooooooo uncommon. (rolling my eyes)

Im not sure if its a problem of the gsync modul in the Monitor or a strange bug.
Atm i cant test im not at home.
I will write if i find something out.

Here's something strange that happened last night in Call of Duty Black Ops II.

With GSYNC off, max refresh rate and VSYNC off in the nVidia control panel and VSYNC off in the game menu I was locked at 60 FPS. The game itself is hard capped at 200 FPS which my setup can do on a 1080 monitor at 60 Hz with one of my cards depending on the sceen/action.

Can you try it with tactical ops or an other old game?
