I need to restore the OS to my Aspire LT, can't find recovery disk. Any ideas

My LT had a legal copy of W7x64 when I purchased it. The HD was replaced and somehow I ended up with the same version of Windows that is on my DT. Windows does not like this and keeps sending me nasty messages.

I'm not sure if I still have the original BU CD.

Is there another solution?

Thanks

    Hello.

In this case as you can not afford Acer Recovery to reinstall the original operating system on your Aspire LT, it is best to buy Acer recovery media in USA.

Through the following link you can buy the media to reinstall the original operating system on your product again.

    http://store.acer.com/store?Action=PostDataValidationPage&Env=BASE&Locale=en_US&SiteID=aceramer

I hope you find it useful the information provided.

Have a great day! Greetings. Smiley Very Happy

The Win 7 key should be on the underside of the LT. Change it to that legal key for the laptop and everything should be fine.

Goto Control Panel>System and click on the 'change product key' near the bottom of the window. Enter your LT product key. Mission acomplished!

Ronap, I like your solution and woould love for it to work   BUT: at the bottom left side of my System window, I have the following links:

Action Center; Windows Update; Performance Information and Tools.

I have followed each of these links and have not found an oppotunity to "Change Product Key".

    What am I doing wrong?

    Thanks

you misunderstood me? On the physical bootom of the laptop, there should be at least three tags. Two by acer including one with the serial number and snid, and, one consisting of a genine Windows 7 lablel with the product key for the genuine Windows printed on the lable. The location for changing the product key is accessed from within the booted system from the 'Contol Panel'. In the 'Control Panel' I would selct view by large icons. This list contol panel items alphabetically. You can now select and clik on 'System'. The System panel should now present the 'change product key' option on the lower right edge. Good luck.

    Ronap,

I'm sorry to be a nuisance I have the Key from the bottom of the LT, I am unable to find a place to enter product key:

I go to control Panel and click on System , this brings up a Window titled, View Basic Information about Your Computer

On the center of window is:

    windows Edition_______________________________________

    Windows 7 Home Premium

    System____________________________________________________

    Computer Name________________________________

    Windows Activation________________________

         Windows is activated

    Product ID

The product ID is not the correct one

I see no place to Change Product Key

    What am I missing?

The reply from ironfly gives good reference to explite instructions. However, unless the win7 version you installed is the same as the one the product key is for, the product key you have will not work! You need to install the same win version as the one the product key is for.

What was your originally installed Win7? Can you borrow or obtain a copy to install?

Thank you for the link, it took me awile to remember how to use a comand prompt and how to enter Dos commands. It worked I was able tto change the Prod key and confirmed that I had in fact changed it. However in a sort while I received the familiar message that I was not running a genuine windows product.

I checked the license key again and realized that I was running with the right activation key but the wrong Product ID.

My goal for today is to change the Product ID. I downloaded instructions for how to change it using regedit.

    Thanks again

Ronap thank you for your patience and assistance. As my reply to IronFly states I got the activation key changed but as you pointed out that tha product ID must agree with the activation key. My goal for today is to change Product ID.

    Thank you

IronFly, I followed the steps on the link you sent me and it appeared to work except for the Product ID code I changed the Product ID in the Registry and it appeared to work, but I'm still getting the nag message from MS. I was reading some stuff on the internet and it said that some companies use a COA code in their W7 versions, the Prod ID is just a red herring.

Does this mean anything to you? Any suggestions on what to do next? I see no reason to buy a version of W7 when I have an activation key.

    Thanks for your help.
