I have an Iconia A100 tablet. It is charging at  0% percent. It works as long and it is plugged in but cuts off immediately when unplugged. The battery icon shows a lightening bolt but still 0 percent charging. I have changed the battery and tried charging it for 24 hours. Even got a new charger and with the new battery the power button blinks orange and on the tablet it says connect charger. Under battery status it says battery source unknown. I put the old battery back in it cause at least it said it was charging even at 0%. I even flashed it to an old version of android via the microusb but still am getting the 0% charging and the cutting off immediately when unplugged.

It has been a long time since I was inside my A100 last, but if I remember right there is a cable between the DC power jack and the main board, and another cable between the main board and the battery. Since you work when power is connected I'd guess your problem is either in the cable between the battery and main board, or the battery they supplied you had been on the shelf long enough to get drained beyond the recovery point. Double check the wiring first, then contact the battery vendor for a replacement.
