Iconia W700 Freezing, even when trying to re-install windows

We've had this W700 for over a year now, however it's only been used about 10-15 times.  The only things installed on it were a few remote desktop clients.  Out of nowhere, it became very laggy and eventually freezes completely, and would force a power down and restart, then it just repeats with the freezing.  I tried re-installing windows, but even then, after a few minutes, it just gets stuck.  The strange thing is that I can still see the screen highlights when you touch, so it's not completely frozen.  For example, I made it through to beginning the windows installation, and it's been stuck on "copying windows files" at 0% for over an hour.  I can touch the screen and see the cursor move, and can even click the X and it asks me if I really want to cancel the installation, however everything else is just not responding.    Any ideas?

That is weird. If you completely power it down, can you get into the BIOS and navigate with no problems?

What happens if you try to restart the windows installation?

I did get it figured out.... I just kept retrying to install windows.  After about the 5th try, it never froze, and everything installed, the tablet now functions as it should.  The strange thing is, I can now feel the heat coming out of the exhaust ports, I don't recall feeling the heat before.  Just a shot in the dark, but I think whatever was controlling the processor fan was not working, and the thing was overheating, which would explain the freezing.

Never tried getting into the BIOS.

I wonder if the fan had stiction from sitting so long. Each time you powered it up it would try to spin the fan, but it wouldn't have quite enough oomph to break it loose, until the last try when it loosened up and started working again...
