Acer 7741 fan or heatsink and fan needed.

My 7741 fan is making noises and the temp is high at 186f. Normally it's 150f. I would like to buy just the right fan and keep the heatsink. WIll the Acer 7741z or 7741g fan fit my heatsink I wonder? It's hard to tell from the photos on ebay. The fans I saw are not specifically for the 7741 and are brand new but the heatsink/fan unit is used so that fan may go bad in a short period of time.

The first link you've stated is correct: It's the same fan FORCECON. The DELTA one is also compatible.

Its a bit of work to get into the fan and heatsink area, but worth it. If you'll open up the cover on the fan, you'll probably find what looks like a extra filter, but is actually a build up of dust, across the heatsink where the fans vents outwards. If you take a flashlight, with the laptop still put together, and shine it into the output vent on the side, and can't see the fan blades, then that is your problem.

I find it best to clean it every 6 months, just to keep it in top condition.

I upgraded my processor to a i5-480m, and it generates more heat, but with a good cleaning regiment, it has worked flawlessly for over a year since upgrade.

Thanks for the suggestion. I looked in the vent and I can see the fan fan spinning slowly. It's been making a rattling noise so it must be the bearings. I'm about to order that new fan listed in the previous post, get it installed, and get my temps down to 39-42f again.

I want to upgrade my cpu too and want to try to go with an i7 instead of the i5. The i7 740QM 1.73 Ghz is only 10 watts more TDP at 45 watts instead of 35 watts of my i3 cpu. I won't run the i7 it at full 100% power so the cpu won't be at 45 watts heat output. Is there a way to modify the heatsink to dissipate more heat I wonder? Maybe add more copper to the piping? If that's not an option I will upgrade to the i5 cpu. Should be a fun project.
