I have recently developed a problem with my aspire e1-510-2482 notebook. After turing off, I have to unplug power when I start up - if the power is plugged in, the display is black. Once I start up unplugged, I can do a restart and then the display works fine with the power plugged in. Wht do I have to restart to get display with power plugged in? CHDSK and Scannow show no issues.

    Hi robphobia,

That's definitely a strange one...I'd start by resetting power management settings and unfortunately, I don't know that I have any other less destructive suggestions that trying to do a system recovery to make sure something in the OS isn't causing the issue. What OS are you running?

I use Windows 8.1. A couple of points - I did a search for driver updates and my graphics driver was updated. Second, I found an updated verson of Bios - would updating the bios help? Finally, I wanted to do a system restore, but I can only find one restore point, which is after the problem started. Should I be able to look back and find earlier restore points from whenever my automatic Windows updates occurred.

One more thing, I have all my documents and files backed up. Could I do a recovery that reloads the OS?

Yes, the BIOS update could surely help and be a good place to start.

As far as the recovery options, Acer does have recovery built in. Here's a video we have to help with the process: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SjtB7846Bp8

    Thanks,

Something else to add. I originally tried a system restore, but it kept failing and giving me an error message. I did a scannow which found some corrupt files. I ran the repair feature and it fixed the files, but also wiped out my earlier retore points. Can I do the recovery without losing and having to retore all the Acer software that came preloaded?

    Thank you.
