Botched a recovery trying to return to Windows 7 from Windows 8 on Aspire 5552

I had upgraded to Windows 8 from Windows 7 on my Aspire 5552 and didn't like it, so I was trying to use the Acer recovery tool to go back to Windows 7.

I had my first Aspire recovery disk in the dvd drive and because it never asked for a disk I foolishly started worrying after it had started copying files that on the reboot it would go to the dvd and mess things up.  I thought maybe I shouldn't have that disk in the computer while it was doing a recovery and took it out.

It brought the whole process to a screeching halt, and now I'm stuck in some "noman's land" where on boot up it says it's trying to do a repair but can't.  I've gone through all of the options it offers and nothing works.

It seems like some critical files have been destroyed and I can't figure out how to get it to access the information on the Recovery Disks.  When I put the first disk in and restart the computer, even after using F2 to change the booting order so it goes to the DVD first, it still goes to that repair screen where I can't do anything to fix the problem.

I even tried to install Windows XP and it simply won't boot up anything, even installation software with sytem files.

Did I screw up my laptop beyond repair?

I found my own solution.  When I tried to boot up again I hit the Alt key and F10 at the same time.  This took me to the Acer eRecovery Management console and from there I was able to initiate a restore/recovery using the recovery disks I had made right after I purchased my laptop.

I hope this helps anyone in a similar circumstance.
