My Aspire turns on but takes a long time to get to acer screen and windows

I have been experiencing a problem where it takes my laptop quite sometime to awaken out of sleep or hibernate mode. Whats worse is it does the same thing when you turn the uniit off. I normally took seconds then hours, now it has stayed on a blank screen for three days....It turns on, lights blinking as if it is processing and thinking, but it has yet to show the Acer logo screen.....it was fine until i restarted the computer almost a week ago to do the updates and now it wont do a thing. Acer has never ALLOWED me to register my machine because when i purchased the laptop 3 years ago and went to register, it kept telling me that the date was invalid; even after entering it in, in many ways only to not be allowed to register so that affected the warranty etc etc etc;.....any suggestions? I have an album to finish in three weeks and this is crucial! Thanks in advance!!!!

Could you please provide the model of the unit you are referring to? I can provide some additional steps to try if I have that information.

 

There are a couple things to try, but, typically when the system starts to run slow it could mean that the hard drive is getting full or the hard drive is going bad (worst case scenario).

 

You can connect an external monitor to see if you get a display. If not, there could be a hardware problem.
