TravelMate B115 problems with USB 3.0 and Touchpad

Hallo,

do you have an idea how the following issues could be resolved?

I got an Acer TravelMate B115m and installed Windows 8.1 64bit with all required drivers on it. Everything works fine except from the USB 3.0 port and the touchpad.

USB 3.0 port: sometimes devices are recognized, sometimes not. A connected USB-hub seems not to get enough power for the connected mouse, keyboard and USB-pendrive. (Interestingly the same configureation works on the USB 2.0 ports).

Windows says that all drivers are up to date.

Touchpad: The synaptics driver is installed, but there are no options to fine tune the touchpad in the mouse properties. The touchpad feels like it is not working to its full potential. Other laptops alwys showed some synaptics options.

If you found a solution or have any ideas, I'd be happy to know.

Kind regards,

Robert

    RobertCee,

    • Could you provide the part number of your unit please? (first 10 characters of the serial number)
    • Please make sure that you are using the most up to date BIOS.
      • In the BIOS, check to see if your touch pad is set to advanced or basic.
    • If you didn't have the problems before the update, you can perform a system restore before the update and try again.
      • If that fails, you can perform a system restore again to before the update, uninstall the touch pad drivers, update, then install the drivers from the support site.
    • Are you having a problem when using any device plugged into the USB 3.0 port, or only when using the HUB?

Thank you for your reply, Acer-Justin,

I'm not sure which is the right number:

    S/N: NXVA1EG002************

    • My BIOS is up-to-date.
    • In my BIOS the touch pad is on "advanced" (I tried "basic" but than it lacks functions like two-finger-scroll or pinch-zoom).

    • Touch pad: I didn't try your suggestion with the system restore, because the issues occured right after installation.
    • Touch pad: Though I tried to reinstall the synaptic driver, but it had no effect.

    • USB 3.0: I'm actually having the problem with any device plugged in the USB 3.0 port. Yesterday I deleted the USB 3.0 driver to let Windows reinstall it. After that there was no more error code in the device manager, but still the port does not provide enough power.

Do you have any further ideas, John? Is the serial number of any help?

    Kind regards,

    Robert

    RobertCee,

The serial number would definitely help, if you could PM it to me, the part number you provided does not pull up as a valid US part number.

I don't see anything that shows a power issue with the USB 3.0 port on this system, could you please be more specific on that one? That doesn't sound like a recognition issue as you posted, it sounds like that hub you are connecting with several devices attached is possibly drawing too much power from what the USB port provides. The USB 3.0 port pushes about 2.0A max, you may be exceeding that limit.

Do you have this problem without using a USB hub and just plugging a single peripheral in?
