Acer Predator Z35 Discussion

Just checking in to confirm what I've heard around the rumor mill about this monitor. Supposedly, it's:

- 21:9 ratio

- Curved VA panel

- 144hz refresh rate

- G-Sync

2560x1080 resolution

- Release in September, 2015

- MSRP ???

Is this correct? There seems to be a lot of uncertainty about the resolution (as other news outlets have stated 1440p). Anyone have any info on pricing?

    I have it !

I was a bit surprised to find a shop who told me they had it in stock as it was absolutely impossible to locate the Z35 in my country (France). There is also nothing on the net about retail versions or reviews.

I received mine yesterday and so far I am very pleased with it. I was worried after reading the issues so many people had with the X34 but I did not have any problem with my screen during this discovery session.... I hope it will stay like this !

It is my first G-Sync screen so I find it amazing, of course.

I was waiting for this screen for its 2560*1080p resolution (even if I have a gtx 980 ti SLI). I prefered this to the 1440 base of the X34 as I value ultra settings and additiional frames per second more than increased resolution. I understand that this is a personal choice but it is very good that ACER offers the two options.

I really hope this monitor comes in 1440p.  It would be a dissapointment for this to only be 1080 when the x34 is 1440.

Kefran, if it does come in 1440p, you can still set the resolution to 1080.

I wish Acer would confirm whether this monitor will be in 1080 or 1440.  It is an awesome monitor, the one I've been waiting on, but only if it is 1440p.  If it is only 1080, I will continue waiting until a company makes a monitor with 144hz, g-sync, 1440p, and 21:9 at a minimum of 34".  While a 1ms is preferable, I am fine with 4ms.

    It's 1080p @144hz.

It's currently impossible for Display Port to carry enough bandwidth to run 1440p @ 144hz, hence the two variations in monitor from Acer on the market:

    - The Z35 for 1080p @ 144hz.

    - the X34 for 1440p @ 100hz.

DP 1.3 will allow higher bandwidth for up to 120hz @ 4k resolution, so you still won't get to your 144hz but good luck even getting 4k to run at 120hz without some seriously ridiculous GPU hardware Smiley Happy

You will either need to resign yourself to running lower resolutions at higher refresh rates, or take a compromise to slightly lower the refresh rate at the chance to gain a higher resolution.

I understand people who prefer 1440p. It is really a personal choice. But as I said in my previous post, the 1080 pixels height offers some advantages as it seems the most realistic choice to benefit from 21/9 panels over 100 Hz on modern games without reducing graphical options... or upgrading GPU every year.

Afetr testing the screen this weekend and tuning colors etc, I am still very pleased with the Z35.

I think I managed to get the colors right. This was a bit complicated with no review of this monitor online to use as guides but the final result looks satisfactory. I do not have professional tools to validate the DeltaE, etc but it seems not too far from other good screens I still have on my desk.

I was surprised but I ended setiing the Overdrive to its maximum value (choices are No/Medium/High). It is the first screen ever on which I set it to the max.

While it may not be possible to run 1440p @ 144hz, it would be nice to have a monitor that can support those settings when the hardware catches up.

It would also be nice to have the option to run 1080 @ higher refresh rates OR run 1440p at lower refresh rates.  This would appeal to a greater variety of users and gamers for various applications.  This would also future proof the monitor for when hardware does catch up with that resolution & refresh.

If DP 1.3 can run 4k @ 120hz, I would think it could run 1440 @ 144hz, but I am unfamiliar with bandwidth requirements for various combinations of resolution and refresh.

Hi guys I just got the Z35 and it is a great monitor, however I'm unable to get GSYNC to work.

In my nVidia Control Panel the "Set up G-Sync" option is simply missing.  This is what my control panel looks like: http://i.imgur.com/cg2dP3m.png

    Things I've done/tried:

     - Connected with DP

     - Remove and reinstall gpu drivers

     - various combinations of unplugging the monitor and rebooting the pc,

If anyone has any ideas I'd greatly appreciate the help, thanks!

You may have a problem. There are two versions of the 35inch Predator monitor. One has G-Sync and the other has Free Sync. Looking at your product ID, I think you have the Free Synch model. Check your box carefully for details.

So far the G-Sync model is a very rare beast but the Free Sync is now available.

    Thanks, you're right.

I didn't realize there were two different versions of Z35.  I had assumed the XZ350CU was the same as a Z35 when it showed up in stores, and didn't look carefully enough at the product description.

Oh well.  If the Gsync version shows up I will see if I can do an exchange.

Sorry to hear that. I've been waiting for the G-Sync model for a couple of weeks now. No one has them! Then I did see one and noticed it was the Free Sync model. Not quite what I'm looking for. Hope they come out soon!

The G-sync version is available here in Finland, just ordered mine a week ago, had to send it right back for refund because the monitor had been dropped, maybe at the factory and there were rather long crack left side of the monitor. Box was sealed and all cable bags were unopened. I had the X34 at the first place but it had way too many faults, not all leds lighting up, crackling noise from speakers and IPS glow is not for me...

I'll get new Z35 from another store when refund is complete, so let's wait on that.

Is Acer quality control really nonexistent?

I got my Predator Z35 (G-sync) in Hong Kong a few days ago.

The monitor comes with: Power suppy adaptor (of coz), a Display Port cable, a HDMI cable, a USB cable for the ports behind the display.

The Z35 G-sync works with my GTX970 smoothly. I play World of Warcraft at 2560x1080@144Hz, so far it runs prefectly.

    Few things I dislike:

    1) The user guide is just a thin book lack of information and details extremly. I also downloaded the website one, not much better. I had a hard time to understand what I had really bought.

    2) The stand design is way too bulky, it seriously takes up too much distance on the back side, which causes the monitor sitting too close to my eye, while my desk is against the wall. For a display this big, this design is bad bad bad. The user needs a good distance to use the display, I wonder if their product designer had only tested the display inside their large open space lab. Most user uses it on normal desk, not royal dinning long table!

    3) Input option is too little. Only 1xDP + 1xHDMI.

    4) (related to #3) It looks like there is no auto detect on the input. I got both DP and HDMI connected, After I have set ad used the DP, it won't auto detect and jump to my HDMI device if my HDMI device is ON with the DP device is off. I have to manually switch that, quite annoying.

    5) (related to #4) The OSD control and setting system is not the most user friendly interface I had experienced. It takes too many steps and pressing to operate. It doesn't take a rocket scienctist to run a short and more user friend interface these days. Luckily I don't need to play with the setting everyday.

    6) No indicator to tell if the display is really at OFF mode or still ON just without video input. It has an amber LED lights downward for indication, but one can only see that if the room is very dark. The LED downlight indicator is not viewable at all at daytime.

    7) This is purely personal, I am not the gamer-futuristic-robot-manga-style design fan. I just wish the housing design would be more simple and homing taste. i.e. LG and Samsung. probably because I am more aged. Smiley Tongue

I have not tried the built-in speakers and USB ports (they are not much use for me).

So far this Z35 get it's job done as a big 21:9 display, with good value comparing with LG and Samsung similar models. It also offers some special neat features for gamer. I heard the former Z34 has lots of problem with G-sync, luckily my Z35 G-sync is working fine so far.

The dislikes I mentioned are not critical, but I would have been a much satisfied owner if Acer team had paid attention on these points. I think they are mostly "the easy" problems, and for a monitor at this price range, such problems are showing their R&D and Marketing Dpt. are still very immature.

    (sorry for my English)

Got my Z35 today. I love the look of it! My downward pointing light is blue so it ties in well with the rest of my theme. This thing is heavy! Got it in place and connected via Display Port as that appears to give the best performance. Now to figure out how to set it up just right and get G-Sync working on it.

Screen has no dead pixels, speakers are good enough for me. OSD is difficult to work with. Hopefully I'll get it set up and never need to touch it again.
