Veriton M265 with original mouse. Intermittently double clicks. DM shows no mouse connected ??????

As the subject says, I am using the original mouse that came with the unit, when I left click, it intermittently double clicks. I have gone into the Control Panel and tried altering stuff relative to the mouse, but the strange thing, is that the Device Manager tells me that there is no Microsoft Mouse connected, and it doesn't matter how I alter speeds etc, nothing changes. I have scanned for viruses etc, and all is good, I have also changed the mouse for a known working Microsoft mouse but it makes no difference. Although this doesn't stop the computer from working, it is annoying and slowly but surely the computer is getting nearer to leaving by the nearest window.
