V246HL goes to colors and black and white checkerboard

The monitor was functioning well and suddenly went into a sort of diagnostic mode with different shades of whie, colors and black and white checkerboard.  This is disconnected but connected to a computer makes no difference.

You do not get a "no signal" message.

On the intenet it was suggested could be a bad mainboard.  Likely? Expensive?  Require soldering?

    synonymouse,

Depending on when you purchased the monitor you might still be in warranty, our monitors come with a three year warranty, you could have it serviced. Here are some available options:

    1. Link to set up repairs online without ever having to call in
    2. Link to chat online with a technician (available 24/7) to set up a repair
    3. Send me a PM with the following information:
    • SNID or serial number
    • contact name
    • contact number
    • contact email
    • shipping address
    • date of purchase

Hi, thanks for responding to my plight.

purchased used on ebay July 20, 2014.

I went the warranty route before posting on the ACER discussion site and they told me out of warranty.  Basically I'd like to find out if there is a reset fix or if it is a hardware malfunction.

I hate to junk the monitor - if there is a relatively easy way to replace components and not too expensive I might try that approach.  Meantime I bought an ASUS 27 which is what I am on right now.  Working pretty good - it has an outboard voltage adapter to dc current.  Wonder if the voltage conversion is what is ailing the Acer monitor.

    Thanks again,

Thanks.  I was wondering what PM meant.

Is that a free call or pay to play?

Do you have a parts diagram and list and maybe some service manual in case I have to open up the monitor?  At the very least I would like to attempt a postmortem.

    synonymouse,

It should be a toll-free call.

I don't have any service manuals I could provide, it's considered proprietary information. Smiley Wink

I tried that number but they have no info.

Next I'll try to find any parts for this monitor Acer sells - that might give me some idea how it is constructed.

But rather than just throw the thing in the trash first I'll try to enlist the help of some friends who work on electronics as to how to proceed and then as a last resort I'll find out how it is assembled the hard way.

    synonymouse,

Could you elaborate more on the individuals at that number not having any information? They should be providing support for that monitor, such as repairs, if you could help me understand it a little better.

The lady said they just do referrals on warranty issues but know nothing about technical issues.  All the tech referrals are pay to play.

They are selling new mainboards for this monitor on ebay for around $25 but the image shown did not look like it had a displayport connector which the V246HL  monitor does.  There is a small screw under the base bracket which I removed but the back cover does not just pop off.  So I'll research it a bit and see if there is a trick to taking it off so I can see what the electronics look like.  Sometimes you can see damage and smell that telltale acrid of burnt electronics.

I kinda doubt it is the voltage adapter since the screen lights up.  But it is not recognizing any input and the OSD controls do not function.

    Thanks again

    synonymouse,

I've sent you a PM in regards to this issue.

To make sure it is not in factory mode you can try this: hold down the menu button and power it on, then press the menu button twice to exit. Sometimes that will get it out of any factory test mode.
