Acer Aspire VN7-791G high pitch noise on battery power

I've got a brand new VN7-791G. I bought it without Windows since I have a Windows 7 license and I'm not at all interested in Windows 8. I have installed my Windows 7 and it's working just fine, with one exception - when operating on battery power the machine makes this annoying, high-frequency whining noise. The noise comes from the upper right corner of the laptop, close to the power jack. Once the power cord is plugged in, the noise disappears.

I thought that the noise was related to Acer software that I installed - ePower something and so on. Indeed, this model was designed for Windows 8 and any software that is availabel for this model does not work with Windows 7. I downloaded Acer software for TravelMate models, which of course has the same name and purpose. All of it (launch manager, etc) works just fine. The Launch manager is important since otherwise the blue functional keys are not working properly. I thought that ePower would be useful as well. Now I have uninstalled it but the noise is still there. The only other thing that I installed from Acer website is some sort of a patch (updates to the Windows power plan ..), this I don't know how to uninstall.

I have actually returned the first unit due to this noise, but now the second unit behaves exactly the same. I have searched on Google and on these forums, but there does not seem to be any answer. Customer Service are useless - they just inform me that they do not support Windows 7 on this model.

I would be grateful for any idea.

I'd like to lead off with me being a little concerned about purchasing a unit without an operating system, we ship our systems with an operating system on them which means that this system has been altered from manufacturer's specifications.

Were there also any hardware changes that took place when the software changes occurred?

I'm not sure why are you concerned about the system being sold without the OS, I bought it from a dealer, so Acer does sell them like this. In fact, some kind of Linux was installed there, but it was rather unusable. My motivation to buy the device without Windows was that first of all, I already have a Windows license, so there is no point paying for another one, and second, I strongly prefer Windows 7.

Now, I know that Acer does not officially support Windwos 7 on this model, but it would be very strange to me that some specific noise would be a result of using Windows 7 instead of Windows 8.

To answer your question, the only change of hardware was the replacement of the 500 GB Seagate SSHD by a 750 GB Samsung 840 Evo SSD.

Again, the noise comes specifically from the area around the power plug, so certainly not from the hard drive and then only when the laptop is operating on battery power. As soon as I plug it in, the noise disappears.

The only thing on that side of the unit that would make noise is a fan, which we can have it checked out if you want to make sure the fan isn't bad. The other thing it could be is something wasn't installed back into place appropriately when the SSD was changed out.

Could you please send me a PM with your serial number or SNID so I can research the software change from Windows 8.1 64-bit that normally ships on these units? I'd like to provide some feedback to my software engineers about it an will need a serial number for specifics.

Thanks for the serial number, that helped answer some questions; this is an international notebook (Germany) that shipped with Linpus Linux on it.

We can set the unit up for repair if you would like us to check it out for you, I can only think that a piece of hardware, something loose inside, or something not installed correctly might be causing the noise to happen.
