MacBook and H236HL Speakers

How do I get my 2009 MacBook Pro and my Acer H236HL to connect and use the monitor's speakers. I connected the audo jack from the monitor to the headphone jack in the computer. I have confirmed that the sound is being output throught the headphone jack. I can't get the monitor speaker control to work at all for one thing. I do have the macbook and monitor hooked up via VGA. I have rebooted and turned on both to make sure everything was sync'd up. Other than not using the DVI or HDMI I don't know what it could be.

Any ideas?

    jbellew,

Could you please provide me the first 10 characters of your monitor's serial number so I can research this for you?

According to my documentation, that monitor does not have speakers.
