Hello!

I installed Windows 10 with quite some success on my tablet, the issue is: it used the recovery partition to make a windows 10 one. And for some stability, i would like to go back to 8.1

and of course i didn't backup anything before Smiley Very Happy

I tried installation from the official iso of Windows 8.1, worked, but i can't activate it, even with the oem key.

What is exactly the windows 8.1 version used by the tablet that we can activate? can we download a recovery iso/disk to get back to the factory state?

Any help would be nice Smiley Happy

Your tablet is shipped with OEM version of windows 8, the recovery media is not avaliable for download, you need to purchase it from Acer store  Acer Store

Well, in reality, ACER is not even selling those recovery CD/DVD for the switch 10.

i got a side solution to get windows 8.1 working again, worked but involve download a "Windows 8.1 with bing" (activation is all done quite well after that).

    Regards.

The "key" hardcoded in the firmware is for one specific version of Windows 8.1 only (and there are a lot of different versions (home, home with Bing, Pro, Enterprise,...) available. Glad you found the one that works.

That said once you install Windows if as a clean version you still need to install all of the Acer drivers and updates (last time I did that the updates were about a gig and a half. This can take hours with a device that does not look like it is doing anything but Do Not Interrupt (best to leave alone & plugged in at least for overnight.

I am using a W3 for a Win 10 test mule (98xx worked, 99xx did not, 1000xx works). Each new version takes about 4 hours to load (more if you need to roll back) and I am on a 85 MB/s pipe.

Well, the last version of Windows 10 i tried worked quite well, except for the Gsensors, which is kind of annoying for a tablet, i use the registry trick to enable the autorotation, but even with that, drivers were not loaded correctly (some kind of error related to unknown provider)

that's why i reverted to Windows 8.1, until next Windows 10 TP Smiley Happy

If you are in the US you can simply go to the Acer store and purchase the recovery disk(s). If you are outside the US contact your local Acer Support rep.

And if before you begin, you create a recovery drive and a system image, you'd be able to recover very easily.
