Recovery Disc Install not working.

I received the Acer Recovery Management (V9.0.16) discs to reinstall a Factory Default on my Aspire V3 771G-6485, since I completely obliterated my HDD with a reformat. Since I didn't have any recovery options available, a friend installed a 32 bit Windows 8.1 install on the drive until the recovery discs could be obtained.

I have deleted the partitions to unallocated space using GParted and ensured that the partition table is set for GPT. The UEFI is enabled in BIOS.

The install attempts with the recovery discs provided by Acer return a : Apply failed - ErrorCode=0x2 (ImageX cannot Apply image : WIMGAPI failure)

What am I overlooking in this scenario?

You may disable secure boot in BIOS and boot from the recovery disc.

Power on the system. As soon as the first logo screen appears, immediately press F2 to enter the BIOS.

Use the right arrow key to select Security. Use the down arrow key to highlight Set Supervisor Password and press Enter. Create a password and press Enter. Retype the password to confirm and press Enter again.

Use the right arrow key to select Boot. Press the down arrow key to select Secure Boot and press Enter.

With the arrow key, highlight Disabled and press Enter. Press the F10 key and select Yes to save the changes and exit the BIOS.

We suggest removing the supervisor password immediately after enabling Secure Boot. If you choose not to remove your supervisor password, make sure you write it down for future use.

I followed your instructions and get the same result as I described in OP.

The recovery discs start copying files, I get to disc 3, and when it is finished it starts exporting. When exporting is finished, it starts applying.......then the same error pops up as in OP.

i would wipe completly the HDD, even the GPT partition table.

I used GParted to delete the partitions that were created by the failed install and converted all space to unallocated. I did not create any new partitions, nor did I set up and gpt table allocation afterward like I have done previously. I have not done anything other than delete the partitions. If there is something I was supposed to do before trying the recovery discs again, please advise.

On this install it repeated the previous errors as the past two attempts, this time I was able to record the errors that came up in black screen before throwing up the final error about (ImageX cannot Apply image: WIMGAPI failure).

I dont have the entire string recorded but it says:

[RETRY] Restoring C:\Program Files <x86> \Cyberlink\MediaEspresso\subsys ....(part I didnt get) ..... RT3\SE_CLTLMSplter.ax again <Error = 1392>

That error repeated a few times on the same screen and then I am kicked out to the general WIMGAPI failure error.

BTW this error string starts at the 3% Apply marker.

can you please try to create a copy of CD3 (.iso file) with a CD burner software?

imgburn or infrarecorder are good, so we can check if it's a support error; the process will freeze creating a log if any error will be found.

BTW,

We had tried installing a 64 bit Windows 8 after the initial wipe, but it would never install, but the 32 bit did install. -just in case it points to something we are missing. It is a 64 bit system.

ok, the CD support is not the problem.

so...or the DVD/CD reader has some issue or it's the HDD.

it's also strange that you are not ablet to install a windows 8 x64 OS, it was on DVD or USB installation media?

i would try to create an USB bootable media from this DVD if possible.

imgburn to create the .iso file, then use Rufus to create the USB bootable media, remember to set the bootable media for EFI BIOS.

I only have 8gb thumb drive on hand. I will have to get larger one first. Will check in as soon as I can.

I think it is not the CD support,may be you can check the DVD.

I discovered the solution to my problem: Bad RAM memory.

I suggest in the future if you are getting any BSOD while you are trying to do a clean install of an operating system, do yourself a favor before you waste so much time like I did and get your hands on the latest version of MemTest and run it to check your RAM.

I finally did so and discovered that both my RAM were bad and showed many errors. Once I installed new RAM, my recovery disc finally installed without a hitch.
