Hello, recently I ordered E-Recovery disc's from Acer. When I try to use them to reinstall my Operating System it tells me I need to switch to Legacy BIOS mode. After switching it to that and try again it says switch to UEFI mode. This is a comtinuing loop which can't seem to get past. Can anyone help?

Model: Acer Aspire M 481PT

Windows 8.1

you need to completly wipe your HDD
    http://www.partitionwizard.com/partition-wizard-bootable-cd.html
    download the .iso file
then use a software to burn CD/DVD and burn the .iso file
once done, put the CD/DVD on your desktop, boot from CD (maybe you need to boot under Legacy)
    at the desktop
    select your HDD
right click on your HDD icon and choose delete all patitions and click on yes and then apply
    http://www.partitionwizard.com/help/delete-all-partitions.html#howto

then exit partition wizard, boot to BIOS, set UEFI and boot from the erecovery media.

I was able to create the bootable cd. Now if I try to boot from the disc I can get the main menu, after selecting the default option the computer turns off. I've tried every combination possible with no success. Anything else to try?

Enter BIOS again and disable secure boot, then save and exit and retry

if it still not work, try this other method:

    Download Hiren's boot cd
    http://www.hirensbootcd.org/download/

you must create a bootable media as CD or USB pen from the .iso inside the downloaded .zip file.
    boot selecting Mini XP

    Once booted use command prompt:
then inside the cmd windows, type
    diskpart
    then on diskpart type
    list disk
take note of the correct disk ID to erase
    type
    select disk x
(x is the ID of your HDD to erase)
    type
    clean

your HDD will be erased completly

I ended up wiping the drive with Linux Mint. The issue is still there though. I guess I'll just have to stick with it because something is not right with the bios. thank for the help.

that error appears only when some partitions are still there on HDD when trying to boot from acer erecovery media.

double check that you deleted all partitions.

I will try again, I know for sure all partitions were deleted. The only thing odd was after I tried to format the drive it says the drive is dirty.

you don't need to format after wipe, the HDD must be totally unallocated to work with Acer erecovery media.

try to use minixp on hirens boot cd, as on my previous post.
