I downloaded a driver for my monitor from this site. Windows (8.1) does not associate this file type with anything (and either do I).  How do I launch it or do I ?

I have the same issue, however I have windows 8.1.

I downloaded the 'driver' from this website however when I try to launch this file windows does not associate this file type with anything (and either do I).  How do I launch it or do I ?

Nice monitor but not fully functioning yet.

Just navigate to support, enter the monitor model, a file will be presented to download.  Problem is, you can't install it...see previous posts on that issue.

I'm still waiting for some kind of explanation...

    welchy01,

This process should work without issues.

    To manually install a driver:

    1. You must be signed in as an administrator to follow these steps.
    2. Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, and then tap Search.
    3. (If you're using a mouse, point to the lower-right corner of the screen, move the mouse pointer up, and then click Search.)
    4. Enter Device Manager in the search box, and tap or click Device Manager.
    5. In the list of hardware categories, double-tap or double-click the category your device is in and then double-tap or double-click the device you want. For example, to see your video card, tap or click Display adapters, and then double-tap or double-click the video card name.
    6. Tap or click the Driver tab, tap or click Update Driver, and then follow the instructions. Administrator permission required You might be asked for an admin password or to confirm your choice.

Thanks for taking the time to respond. I have already followed those steps several times.

I did scan the computer for the driver which was downloaded (in the download folder) however the file that the ACER people deliver is not recognized by my compuer because the driver file they have you down load is an hckx file.

    welchy01,

I've passed a message along to get the driver page updated.

Thanks for those who have responded.

I just need to know what they expect a regular person to do with a hckx file.

The "driver file" which is downloaded is called:     FT2150(1A2M)_Pass(Win8)_sign.hckx

Other posters say we should submit this to microsoft. That does not make any sense at all, why wouldn'd ACER do that?  And even if that is true, how do you do that ?  and what happens next?

    This is truely baffling.

I appreciate those giving links that explain how to install a driver. Those instructions are perfect except they assume that you launch an .exe file.  That is the problem. Acer does not give you an .exe file.

No, you don't have to submit the file to anybody! You cannot use this file.
I believe this to be an intermediate file that a developer would submit to Microsoft to obtain certification and signing.
It's simply a slip up. I suspect you will find this is corrected pretty quickly and the correct driver made available for download shortly.

I have a B286HK monitor and am trying to run 4K on Windows 81.  While the Acer driver site has drivers for 32-bit Windows 7, it has NO drivers for 32-bit Windows 8.

A nice screen but I can't figure out how to take advantage of it.

Yes it does. The 32bit Windows 8 driver can be found here:

    http://global-download.acer.com/GDFiles/Driver/Monitor/Monitor_Acer_1.0_W8x64W8x86W7x64W7x86_A.zip?acerid=635393435454840588&Step1=MONITOR&Step2=B SERIES&Step3=B286HK&OS=8P2&LC=en&BC=ACER&SC=EMEA_27

(I believe it is common across Win7 and Win8 32bit & 64bit. It can be worth noting that monitor 'drivers' are not drivers at all - that is the purpose of your graphics card driver. Monitor 'drivers' are typically .inf files that simply describe a monitor.)

Thank you for the link and the explanation about 'drivers' not really being drivers.

After clicking "install' I got this message.

I believe secure boot is preventing the installation.

Try this to overcome the problem:

Go to Start - Then Command Prompt

    Enter (without quotes) command "shutdown /r /o /f /t 00"
    Click the "OK" button
System will restart to a "Choose an option" screen
Then select "Troubleshoot" from "Choose an option" screen
Then select "Advanced options" from "Troubleshoot" screen
Then select "Windows Startup Settings" from "Advanced options" screen
    Click "Restart" button
System will restart to "Advanced Boot Options" screen
    Select "Disable Driver Signature Enforcement"
    Restart & install drivers...

Here are the options for my system (this takes me back to the old DOS days !

Let me know which combination makes the most sense for this kind of shut down...

I don't believe the /d switch is mandatory.
I would try again with a space between parameters (it may or may not be required).

Following windows instructinos for safe boot, I managed to navigate to your instructions and "disable Driver Signature...

Then I successfully executed the file which was downloaded. By right clicking on file and selecting ' install '.  A message said that it was successful.

    I restarted.

Then nothing was any different than before.  As if It never ran at all.

So then I did it all over again and went to device manager, and tried to do it from there.  I got the same message that I was getting before - that the generic monitor had the best driver.  And the device manager showed a generic monitor.

    Back to squaire 1.

Same basic outcome.  I attempted to change the Driver from Generic PNP.  It responded that the Generic PNP driver is the best one to use.

correction...Generic non PnP driver.  But I tried the Generic PnP driver and it is exactly the same.  Screen resolution of 2880 x 1558.

Try and uninstall the generic driver first and immediately install correct on.

If 'found new hardware' pops up before you can load the new, try and disable it and then load.

If that fails then right click and select 'Update driver software...' and browse to your file.

It can also be worthwhile to select 'Let me pick..' just in case it did successfully get loaded and is in the list.

Alan, I really appreciate your help on this. However, none of those suggestions made it work.

I unintalled the Generic PnP Monitor and on anotehr try i also disabled it.  When I right click on the driver file, it tells me that the operation successfully completed but there is absolutely no evidence that it had.

I've been running both of these downloded files.

Finally, I tried to "Pick from list" but just option is presented (see image)

Well, I have good news and I have bad news.

    First the good news

    Capture.JPG

I decided to plug in the USB, as soon as I did files were being loaded. Then I launched the 'driver' file, then I went to device manager and picked from list and found it and selected it.  TIP = need to uncheck the box called "show compatiable hardware"

    The bad news.

No new functionality -  still no touch screen and no sound.
