New to the forum.

The hard drive on my Acer Aspire One Model 532h-2268 died, and I need to re-install Windows 7 Starter. This archived thread seems to be the solution. Since it is a little dated, please confirm it is still the way to go.

Thanks in advance.

The thread's link to the ISO file is broken. And Microsoft's site refused to download, claiming the product key is for a preloaded product. Where else can I get an ISO file?

From Microsoft only with a valid retail product key, otherwise

    Acer recovery media
if you are in the US you can buy it:

if you are outside the US, you must call/email your regional Acer support service:

Thanks for the suggestion. But how can I use the eRecovery media on a CD?

I entered my netbook's SNID, but the checkout cart showed an eRecovery CD. Shouldn't it be an eRecovery USB?

since your laptop is without a cd/dvd player, an USB erecovery will be better, i don't know why they sell CD only.

It is strange indeed. Their store states that cd/dvd and thumb drive are available depending on your device. And have an image showing both. The SNID should tell them I have a netbook.

Is there an Acer staff here who can help?

let's wait for an official answer. Smiley Happy

in the worst case, you can try to create an iso file from this CD/DVD and then burn it (them) on an USB flash drive.

    Hi guys,

For clarification, USB media came into existence as part of Windows 8 requirements. We do have some Windows 8 media in DVD format, but not in both and I don't want to over confuse this situation.

With ataloss' system being Windows 7, the only format we had available was DVD, it would require using an external DVD drive with an independent power source (it needs to have it's own plug into a power outlet, don't just rely on USB power on these small netbooks).

Let me know if you have questions.

    Cory,

Thanks for the clarification. I was able to find another solution to recover Windows 7 Starter, without losing any applications and data. Lucky me.

For future reference, can the eRecovery media for Windows 7 on DVD be copied to an USB for a netbook? Is the DVD an ISO file?

DVD is not an iso file but every DVD can be converted to an iso file.

I don't want to say no, because with computers anything is possible... Smiley Happy

But I'm not aware how this would be done, and Acer does not have a method to accomplish this.
