Bluetooth Issues Aspire V5-571P

I recently reformatted my PC and upgraded to Win 8.1 Pro. I went through the Drivers Support page and got everything I needed. I ran the system checker to ensure that my machine contains the Atheros Bluetooth and WiFi adapter; not the Broadcom. This being said, I have installed the correct drivers, I have tried using the default Microsoft drivers, and I have manually injected *.inf drivers to no avail. Everything appears to be working; I have a bluetooth icon and my PC is "discoverable". Whenever I try to add a device, though, absolutely nothing works. I have a bluetooth phone, a tablet, and two bluetooth speakers NONE of which can see my computer and my computer can see none of them. This is incredibly frustrating and I am in dire need of assistance.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you!

While it might not make that much of a difference, but it could, the Windows 8.1 drivers we have on our support site are for the standard Windows 8.1 operating system, not the professional version.

I suspect that I already know the answer to the question, but may I ask why you just didn't upgrade to the professional version from the Windows 8/8.1 that was already installed?

Justin, I have an Aspire V5-573P. Upgraded from 8 to 8.1. I attempted downloading a few drivers to no avail. What i have now is Bluetooth_Atheros_8.0.1.305_W81x64_A. The bluetooth icon disappeared from the system tray as well. Think you can help me with this?

Sorry to hear you're having an issue with your BT as well. You stated that you are downloading drivers to no avail, I presume that you downloaded and ran them, but it didn't resolve anything?

I have seen posts online where customers uninstall the BT drivers before doing the upgrade to Windows 8.1, then install the drivers as needed after the upgrade if Windows 8.1 doesn't intall them itself. What that means for you is possibly having to go back to Windows 8 and try this method, but make sure that you download both the wireless and BT drivers as the card is a combo card.

Ok, before I go back to Version 8, I'd like to try running the driver files.

Now, by "run them", do you mean unzip the files?

Should I extract the whole driver folder or a particular file in one of the subfolders?

Is the driver I mentioned the correct one?

Do I also need to download the latest wireless drivers and run that?

Should I uninstall current BT and Wireless drivers before running latest drivers?

Sorry...not the brightest knife in the chandelier. Friends call me Air-istotle. So me may require some extra attention.

If you aren't certain which wireless and BT are installed in the system, we have a tool on our support site that helps tell you so you can download the correct drivers.

If you go to our Drivers and Manuals page and do a search for the drivers listed for your V5-573P. If you scroll down you should see a list of drivers.
You should see something that says Need to know the hardware on your system to choose the right drivers? Click on that to scan your system and it will tell you what hardware you have in your unit.
Once you've done that, next to where it says operating system there is a drop down box. Click on that box and make sure you choose Windows 8.1 64-bit so it populates the correct drivers.
Download the drivers you need/want. It will ask you if you want to save them or run them. I would recommend you save them to your desktop so it's in an easy location to find.
Once the files are downloaded you can right click on them and choose extract all. Just go ahead and extract the folders to the desktop again.
Delete your wireless and BT drivers before installing the new drivers if you want, just to be sure. You can do this by accessing the device manager.
In each folder should be an executable file that you will need to run to start the installation process.
Once you've installed the new drivers go ahead and restart your system to see if it resolved your issue.

When uninstalling drivers, should I also click on the check box to "Delete the driver software for this device"?

I have completely deleted the drivers and reinstalled other ones when trying to make this work, but I have had no success. Windows seems to think everything is running fine but it cannot find or connect to any other BT devices. I am fairly savy with technology and I am absolutely flaberghasted as to why this is happening... really, I have no idea...

As for why I decided to reformat instead of upgrading from the standard OS version, my comp was really slowing down and I knew that I had a bunch of uneeded registry and system files from various uninstallations, etc...

Again, Bluetooth is the only thing causing problems. Absolutely everything else is working fine.

I upgraded my V5-551 a week ago from the MS store.I just tested my Bluetooth and it connects and works great. I looked at the driver and it is not the driver in Acer drivers for Windows 8 or 8.1.

The drivers are all Microsoft.

Well, since you aren't using an OEM copy it makes it hard to kind of troubleshoot driver wise. You can try to find the non-OEM manufacturer drivers and download them for W8 Pro, uninstall what is currently installed, and try to reinstall them.

The other option is to put the OEM load back on the system, do all the updates, upgrade to W8.1, do more updates, then try to use the upgrade to W8 Pro with the product key. I'm not sure if that will work, you'd have to ask Microsoft honestly, but a valid purchase product key should be all you would need I think (not sure how licensing works out).
