Acer Iconia A1-840 tablet: Skype fails after Skype app upgrade

All that happens is "Unfortunately, skype has stopped"

I found a solution that does NOT require resetting to factory condition.

It was supplied by a poster on the skype community and worked for me.

Chatted with Acer and Skype today. No need to reset to factory settings!!!! Skype was fab. Basically go to settings then apps go to Skype then uninstall updates then disable, then google abdroiddrawer.com and download older version of Skype anything from 4.2 onwards. If security message comes up just allow the download. I downloaded 5.0 and it works! Hope this helps!!!!!!

Sounds like a good way to get a virus. Who vouches for the legitimacy of those APKs? Isn't it a bit irresponsible to recommend just ignoring the security message and loading them? Acer should track down the issue with Skype until a genuine update is available.
