Hi Folks ............ Where do I start , Ok ...had a problem with the power input plug so bought one and found that when removing the botton casing the electricty had arced and burnt the casing that I had to replace the casing as well to get the internal plug to seat properly  Ok done that job

When its all together I then try to use wireless to connect , but now wireless ? To get round this I used an external usb and connected this to resolve the isse temporarly

Ok , the other issue I have had is with the black screen not wakening the laptop, so I upgraded the BIOS to latest version

of the laptop ( without issue and problems ) and at the same ( a few days later) reset the laptop back to factory condition and then upgraded the laptop with all the updates to bring it up to scratch

The laptop works well and I can connect also via the wired LAN port, but the external wireless device is a bit limited in terms of power and range .

SO, decided to look at putting the internal wirelss device right .... and this is where the fun starts

To start with I have :

Replaced the wireless unit ( intel PRO/wireless 3945ABG Network connector ) ( original part)

checked Acer site and tried to download the software 190mb? but no go , so went direct onto Intel and downloaded the specific driver for this unit .....but still no wireless connection

Continued with Intel site and tried to download the diagnostic tool .. but this fails to run for me and suggest its either a firewall \( which is off) an activex that needs to be installed ( which it has) or whatever but it wont run so downloaded it manually .... when I finally run the software it falls at the first fence by saying " driver version does not support Intel PRO/wirelesss.... Yet if I check on control panels /programs ...they are there ? If I check device manager , network adaptors I see Broadcom Netlink (tm) Gigabit Ethernet ( presumambly the hard wire Ethernet I am connected to at this moment ? ) but nothing else

I have taken the keyboard and speaker panel out again to check a wire isnt loose ( it may be possible that I trapped a wire and an internal wire MAY have been broken within the sleeving , BUT DOUBTFUL .... but maybe a possibility ... the wireing otherwise is ok and connected correctly and the card installed correctly .....

Reading around these issues people have wrote about setting up the BIOS to ensure wireless is connected correctly ... but I have been in there and see nothing about wireless configuration ??

Can anyone suggest where I can start to sort this bundle of fun out please ... Like I say its working fine on the ethernet as I am writing this on the beast ....but would LOVE to get to the bottom of this one to see EXACTLY what the problem is

By the way if I try to turn on/off the wirless connection using the button under the screen it just flags a message up in green "No wireless device" ? ...any help appreciated

Over to you guys ....

Looks like you've done a lot so far. New wifi card, restore to factory defaults, made sure that the antena wires are connected to the wifi card (the black and white wires that snap on the card...sometimes just 1 wire), ect. Have you checked to make sure that the slot on the motherboard is working right? Sometimes an arc in the power will cause more damage than normal. Maybe you can get help for this with a local computer tech in your area?
