AO725-0687 POOR video playback

I purchased an AO725-0687 netbook from Wal-mart, as the reviews on Amazon and Walmart's sites were all positive.  Especially in regards to the video performance.  I ordered a SSD HD and a 4gb stick of ram for it (Did not install right away).  However, upon starting it up for the first time, I was amazed at how underwhelmed it was.  The bloatware made it feel clunky, and the video playback was awful.  I continued to put a fresh copy of WIndows 8 on it, and I resinstalled all of the drivers hoping it would fix it.  It didn't help.  I tried installing Ubuntu, since it is extremely light weight. It ran better, but still, the video playback was AWFUL.  I installed the parts once they came in a few hours ago, and I put another fresh copy of Windows 8 on, and everything runs swell except video playback. I do not understand how the video playback can be so choppy.  Is anyone else having this problem?  I disabled all OS graphical effects, but it did nothing as well.  Help!!!!!!!!!!

 

PS:  The vendors advertised this as having an HD 6970 integrated graphics card, but the drivers are showing it as a HD 7200 series.  I'm not sure if this is a problem?  (Those are the drivers directly from this website)

Well, I seemed to have solved my own problem.  The ATI catalyst program fails to recognize a video card in the netbook, which would explain why the drivers were not installed when I bought the computer, however, fixing it is easy:

 

1.  Download proper VGA drivers.

2.  Unzip/Unpack them. 

****DO NOT RUN SETUP.  IT WILL INSTALL ALL OF THE SOFTWARE EXCEPT THE VGA DRIVERS FOR SOME REASON*****

3.  Right click on "Computer" in your explorer folder and select "Manage."

4.  Once in the "Manage" window, select "Device Manager" under System Tools.

5.  Find "Display adapters" and if it has a basic microsoft driver, then right click and uninstall.  If there are no drivers found at all (other netbooks/laptops maybe) then perfect.

6.  Right click on "Display adaptors" and select update drivers.  

7.  Once you have selected that, do not update automatically.  You will need to manually install the drivers by searching for them on your computer.  So select search for drivers.  It is usually the second selection under "search automatically."

8.  Find your drivers folder, and navigate through it accordingly:  Packages>Drivers>Display and from there Windows should be able to handle it.  

9.  Click install and *Voila.*  Your AO725-0687 will detect your Radeon HD 7290 video card.  (Remember that all merchandisers, and Acer site list this model as having a 6200 series vid card, which is incorrect.)

 

 

As a side note for Linux users, the proprietary drivers are even more worthless than the windows standard drivers.  But, download the driver package anyway, and use the software center to download "ndiswrapper" which is a client that converts Window's drivers for use in Linux, and your video card problems should be solved.
