My Acer 5811 just started doing this too.  First it seemed like it was problem playing video, would cause black screen, so have to reboot.  But now happens whenever. And it has turned into Blue screen .. even Windows log notes blue screen. Basically computer is unusable now randomly and frequently crashing.

I had similar problem after I first got it, but finally figured out it didn't like the updated Nvidia drivers for graphics chip.  So got an older driver and used that and it was fine.

Now a relative in another city has the computer and is describing the problem by email which makes troubleshooting a bit hard.

HOwever, I beleive they did the driver reinstall to older driver but didn't seem to help.

They also brought computer to computer shop who i called and they said it was a 'motherboard issue'.. and they described it as a problem at boot up, before windows and drivers were being invoked, something my relative didn't note or wasn't able to identify.

Anyways, i can only think to try to get relative to reflash bios with latest bios update but strange that it would suddenly have issues with bios when it was never changed.

The only alternative is to go with worst case scenario that it is a hardware failure as computer shop indicated .. hardware fails from time to time i guess.

But be happy to hear from Acer techs or anyone else with some input.

    Thanks
