Acer W3-810 LIve Updater Problem

Hello,

I am hoping someone can help me, as I'm in a bind.

I purchased a brand new W3-810 onine recently.  It has the same problem experienced by many of these tablets where it will not work unless it is plugged in.  I performed the BIOS 1.7 update through the Acer Drivers webpage and that has not fixed the problem.  The orange light still will occasionally blink and it says battery is plugged in and charging, but it will still immediately power off when the power cable is disconnected.

The Acer Live updater program still shows an available BIOS update, and when I start it, a dialouge box with "Battery update tool Ver. 1.0.0.6" comes up and never completes.  It just sits there about halfway complete and never does anything else.  In the meantime, the BIOS update fails and nothing else happens. All of this while my BIOS is v1.7.

Is there something else I'm missing or that I can try differently?  I've read that I might need to try and replace the battery.  It was a brand new, sealed tablet, but obviously is out of warranty at this point.  I am running Windows 8.1.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

i have the same model. blinking orange light means it's plugged in but not charging battery for some reason. i have this happen to the tablet, but reboot always helps. You bought it recently brand new and it's out of warranty? as the last resort, in this case i would open it up, disconnect it from tablet and check voltage. if the battery is bad, replace it. sounds like a hardware issue to me, if sofware is up to date.

I wouldn't be so quick to say it's out of warranty. Plug your numbers into the correct Acer site for your locale and see. Likely the problem is the battery, and if it's been sitting on the shelf for a long enough time it could have gone to fully discharged state, which no longer allows a recharge.
