I forgot my administrator password and tried to use that erestore thing to reset the computer but it seems to have crashed.  It will not boot up.  It will start up but then it doesn't keep going.  I tried using F2, that didn't help.  I tried F8, that didn't help.  It will get a thing that syas "starting windows" and it just stays there, it doesn't start.  What can I do? Can anyone help me?  I called support and they said a restore disk won't help.  Please help.

Oh, it also has windows 7 starter program on it.  It's model # is Aspire One D255

Thanks for helping.

    Leesflower,

Please follow the instructions and video on this Acer Support page, How do I restore my computer if it will not boot into Windows?

If that fails, one question I have is what was your computer doing before this started? I ask because I want to make sure that the hard drive is not defective. If so, recovery media would not resolve your issue. If the process I suggested fails, the hard drive is most likely defective and you'll need to replace the hard drive.

Depending on the age of the unit will determine the method available to the Acer representative you contact. If you have to replace the hard drive, and you have not created your recovery media for the unit, you would need to go and purchase them for use on your unit here: Acer Store eRecovery Media page.

Since this is a netbook it doesn't have an optical drive so you would have to make sure and use an external optical drive with the media, which will most likely be in DVD format.

Now my computer is acting up again.  It is not booting up again.  It seemed to be working for about 2 weeks, now it has stopped booting again.  It said it was loggin me on with a temporary ID several times, then it stopped booting.  I tried the Alt F8 and it didn't bring up the restore screen like it should.  Is there something else I can do?

    Leesflower,

Could you advise the purchase date of the unit and what was your computer doing before this started? If the steps I provided in my previous message did not work, it could have a hardware problem.

I think I bought it about 4 years ago from WalMart.  Now it has started but it says my Windows version may not be authentic which is odd because it is the same as when I bought it.  It also didn't give me any way to enter my code or whatever its called for the authentic windows thing.  but I have my code.  I don't give up easy.  I have a laptop that is 10 years old and I'm still using to play games on, it's actually held together with DUCT TAPE.  If I move it, it will fall apart. Honest to goodness.  So I'm not giving up on this little thing either Smiley Happy  It just needs patience and a little coersion.  Smiley Happy

    I really appreciate your help.

    Leesflower,

It sounds to me like the unit may have a hard drive that is failing or possibly another piece of hardware on the unit failing. I sent you a PM in regards to this.
