Emachine T6520 Operating System. Windows XP Media Center Edision 2005

I have run into a problem. I tried to run my recovery discs and it did not work out so well. Now the computer will not boot. I keeps running the pre boot check or whatever its called. Giving me the Error PXE-E53: No Boot Filename Received.

As I understand it being an XP OS, over the years, I have had We, Win 98, Vista and 7 upgrades. However its gotten so slow, that you could cook dinner between doing this or that on it.

So it was recommented that I do a full recovery. I did so using the recovery CDs that I made for it. I am sorry to say I don't know what base OS are on them. XP, We, 98, Vista or 7 as it will not boot.

Can somebody get me going in the right direction. I would like to put XP back on it. But I don't have a clean disc. And the fact that XP is slowly expiring, and thus subjects the computer to more and more security problems.

At this time I do not know if I should download a recovery program from the internet. Or if it will even work. I found that Acer or whatever is not supporting XP anymore. So I don't think there is anyway to get the original XP that was put on at the factory, and will accept the user code I have here for it.

Of if that is not possible. I would like to know what what Windows OS I could run on that computer that would not be so dang slow. At this time the only clean OP I have is Vista. I tried to install XP on both of the internal hard drives I have in that computer. And get the same error either way.

All the upgrades to windows I've put on this computer over the years, have all been oked by the upgrade check program from windows. But others tell me that T6520 was never intended to run 7. That is partly why it runs so slow, the the hardware was not designed for it. I do know the Emachine does not even reconize the serial number that is on the case. That reminds me, the recovery discs I used never asked me for a key code, it that is normal.

Anybody out the that could help. Your help would be greatly appreciated.

I would like to thank those who gave suggestions for those suggestions. I have to say that is all they where. The issues where not really addressed. But it was worth asking.

I figured out what was happening. I had downloaded the correct updated drivers, but they had not installed. I found where to install those drivers, after doing so, I now have everything working as it should, even the Ethernet connection.

    GATRaptor,

Glad to hear that this unit has worked for you for so long!

I'm not sure if you've made any changes to your BIOS, but the Error PXE-E53: No Boot Filename Received you are receiving could be something simple to fix. Let's go into the BIOS and set it back to defaults. This can be done with these steps:

    • Power the system on, and tap the delete key a couple times to access the BIOS.
    • Once inside the BIOS, press the key to reset BIOS to defaults. Typically this is the F9 key on your keyboard, but it usually says what it is on the screen if that's not it.
    • Use your arrow keys to go to exit, then save your changes and exit.

If you have your system is of the recovery disc set loaded into your optical drive it might ask you to press any key to boot from it if your hard drive wont load. If so, press any key and get started with the recovery process.

Should the process fail, most likely because it cannot find a hard drive, the hard drive will most likely need to be replaced, then the recovery discs ran to load the operating system on it. Recovery media purchased from Acer (eMachines) does not ask for a product key when it installs the operating system.

As far as Windows 7 requirements go, Microsoft has provided a list of minimum requirements to install and run it here: Windows 7 system requirements

If you've never upgraded your unit from the base model, you might need to do a little work on that. I hope that this helps out with your questions.

I resolved that problem by doing a clean install of Vista that I had replaced XP and 98 and maybe even We. I tried to load the upgrade to Win 7, but it would not boot.

I tried the Vista disk and it booted and installed Vista. I have not gotten that error sense. The problem I am having now if that the computer will not find Realtec. The Device Manafer says that it is up to date, but the option to connect it is not there. All I get you are not connected to a network.

So as it stands I can not update anything, as the computer can not get to the to my router. I havr even tried a direct ethernet connection from my motom to that computer. And it still does not find the connection.

    GATRaptor,

Thanks for the update. If you have another computer you can try to download the correct ethernet drivers directly from RealTek. Once you've done that you shouldn't have issues connecting to your modem through an ethernet connection.

I tried doing a IPCONFIG /RELEASE a few ago. I got the following error:
Error occurred while releasing interface Loopback Pseudo-interface 1: the system cannot find the file specified.

The operation failed as no adapter is in the state permissible for the operation.

So where do I go from here? I also get messages that Windows is having Driver Hardware issues.

I think that the issue is partially fixed. May last post explanes the continuing proble with this computer. Until I can get access to the internet I can not proceed with upgrading or registoring Vista or any other OS I might want.

Maybe I should have posted the question on a different post. Anyway I am stuck at not having internet connection on this computer. It does not mater if it is going through the router or wired direct to the modem.
