usb drive does not appear in My computer in Windows 7 home Premium

in 2015 Archives

I have an Acer Aspire 7750 running windows 7 home premium. When I insert a flash drive in the usb port, I hear the sound that indicates the flash drive is inserted, but the drive does not appear on the 'My computer' window.

 

I am not a novice but definitely not an expert so please keep the explanation of the solution basic if possible.

    Hi,

    Check if the same works in different USB Ports, under device manager if there is any unknown devices or try to uninstal & reinstall USB Root hub, that should help. Let know if you have the same issue. you could also check with any other USB Devices if works.

    Thank you for the suggestion. I put a different flash drive in and after 30 seconds or so that drive appeared. I then decided to insert the original 8GB PNY drive that did not work before, and it appeared. I don't know what was different. The PNY drive would not appear previously in any of the 3 USB ports.
