ES1-512 wont run on battery power

I have a ES1-512 laptop bought just before chrismas that is showing a battery problem. It will run on mains power without problem however if mains power is removed it shuts down imediately. Also in the task bar the battery indicator is showing 74% available (plugged in, not charging).

i have read other suggestions for other models of laptop for the 'plugged in, not charging issue, however as this battery is not removable im not sure exactly how i can carry out the steps sugested. Im reluctant to return it to the store as short of the power issue its working well and it obviously now has all my stuff on it.

Any suggestions appreciated.

i did try that but couldnt feel a noticable 'click' and didnt want to push to hard...will try again later and if not try and establish what the suppliers 'return window' is.

Shut down, unplug, find the tiny hole in the bottom and gently push a paperclip into the hole until you feel it click. Plugin and try it.

If it is still the same and you are within the return window, take it back for replacement or refund.

Well i tried all things suggested, performed a full system restore (if it was going back, i would have had to back up my **** anyway!) and the problem remained. i contacted Tesco Direct (where i bought the laptop) and after a 10min conversation they had dispatched a replacment unit to my local store for exchange..hopefully i have more sucess with the replacment, it doesnt look like im alone in having these problems.

In the last 3 months i have had this battery problem detailed and also suffered the much discussed capacitive 'windows' button problem on an aspire switch 10 (i eventually returned it for refund!) - thats a 2 out of 2 failure rate, im not sure if ive just been unlucky or Acers standards are slipping - ive been buying/reccomending the stuff for years..so hope this is not the case.
