Acer aspire 5733z no power after using usb to sata cable

Hi, I got one of those usb to sata/ide cables to read an external sata drive on my acer. I followed the instructions for connecting a 2.5" sata drive. When I plugged the usb in there was a pop and now my laptop won't start and no lights are on. Something obviously blown but wondered if anyone would know what would go? And if it's worth fixing it? I've taken the hdd out and it works and is ok...

You may try to perform a power reset. Disconnect the AC adapter, remove the battery, Connect only the AC adapter and check if the computer is working, if computer powers ON you may reset BIOS to default settings.

If working you may shutdown and insert the battery and check if the issue is resolved.

Hi Ally, thanks for your reply. I have tried your solution with 3 chargers, including the original, but I'm getting no power at all. Cheers
