have an iconia w4 [for just a week] I turned it on this morning and the screen said "please wait".

    I've seen that take over an hour particularly if set to perform automagic updates (I do manually so can schedule - on win 10 preview I have to use Task Manager to see if updating.

     

    If this is a new machine that shipped with 8.1 I recall about 550 MB of updates in the first few days.
