I have tried both methods of resetting my a500 tablet but still only get to acer logo screen. yes the tablet is out of warranty as is all the posts i have read with same problem. No real answer have been provided on how to get tablet to work when resets are ineffective. This leads me to believe that there is a planned obsolence built into the product. I would love to know what other people think and an answer as to how to get tablet to work again.

Normally the error is from corrupted files on the SSD, breaking the boot process. Depending on your location you can download the OS image from Acer Support and go through the process for reloading the OS (Placing the OS image on a FAT32 USB thumb drive, special keypresses during boot with the USB thumb drive connected, then booting the OS image). Make sure that the image matches your locale, other images will not work.

the image needs to be on microSD not USB thumb drive. Smiley Happy

    I'm not an Acer employee.

You are right, of course. Smiley Happy I must have had my Windows hat on when I answered.

Itried both methods but still cannot boot past ACER logo.  I downloaded the OS to a Micro SD chip and when I go through the process nothing happens.  The system says:

"Bootloader v0.03.121-ICS Starting Fastboot USB download protocol"

      but goes no further.

    The other time it says:

    "Erasing Cache before SD Update"

    "SD Udate CMD: Recovery"

"update_package=SDCARD: update.zip" (this file I downloaded to microSD)

    Booting Recovery Kernel Image

Once this is done the Android shows for a few seconds then it shows the Android on its back with the front panel open and a RED triangle with a BLACK exclamation point.

That is sounding an awful lot like a hardware issue. It looks like it's seeing the update.zip file, it verifies the version info and fails either during the extraction or as it tries to write...
