On a brand new Aspire E-15, Windows 8.1 is stalled on the greem screen and says: "Working on Updates. 100% Complete. Don't turn off your Computer".  This happened after I removed McAfee and added AVG Free. I also removed some programs like Acer Explorer Agent, AOP Framework by Acer, Pokki Start, Remote Desktop Access, Spotify and a few other junk applications I found.

How can I get past this screen and access my desktop?  Thanks in advence for any help!

Try the "How To Recover From a Frozen Windows Update Installation" here

Hi there and thanks for the idea.  Unfortunately, I cannot get to Safe Mode, in Windows 8.1.  Apparently, Win 8.1 boots so quickly, the F9 option to open safe Mode will not work and all other Safe Mode options require that you have access to your desktop. Quite a limiting OS, in my opinion.

Any other options would be appreciated.  Thanks in advance.

Yes it does boot fast. If you wait until you see the prompt you will miss it. I start tapping the key quickly as soon as I push power.
