Using AL1511b monitor on 5820T-6401 laptop in Italy. Simple adapter or converter needed? AC adapter appears to be internal. Do I simply attach an adapter to the wall end of the monitor cord to adapt to Italian DC plug configuration or do I need a converter between the end of the US AC 3 prong grounded male connecter and the Italian DC wall outlet? Some external AC adapters have a switch to change from AC to DC power and some are just automatic. What's the story here? Any help would be appreciated.

The AC adapter of your notebook will automatically convert between 110 V to 240 V automatically. You would just need the adapter to connect it to the wall outlet in Italy. Your monitor should also automatically convert the voltage as well, you would just need the adapter to connect it to an Italian outlet.

Thanks. You've provided me with some confidence to just plug in the devices. I'm always a little cautious, although most computer equipment travels better than entertainment electronics.

If you look at your AC adapter, it should show on the label that it handles 100v - 240v. Your monitor should also have a similar sticker on the back indicating this.
