The display on my monitor resized itself so I can't see the (x) to cancel the current program.  I tried to use the Acer eDisplay Manager and all it did is freeze a partial message on the desktop which gave options such as "Can't access internet" etc.  I have no trouble accessing the internet as you can see from this post.

In case you are unable to close the window on the screen, press "Alt + F4" button.

To change the display resolution in Windows 7 follow the steps mentioned in the below link:
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-in/windows7/change-your-screen-resolution

To change the display resolution in Windows 8 follow the steps mentioned below:
    1. Press "Windows + D" to navigate to the desktop
    2. Right click on an empty space on the desktop and select "Screen Resolution"
    3. Under "Resolution", click on the drop-down menu and select the required resolution
    4. Click on "Apply" to preview your resolution
    5. Click "Keep Changes" if the desired resolution is achieved

If I change to a lower resolution (I have a LCD monitor that is rather large) my desktop becomes distorted.  I have no idea how it got changed to this setting but the right side (I assume the left also but there is nothing there that interrupts usage) has moved outside of the monitor view while the left side doesn't go all the way to the monitor frame.  I just don't know how to fix this.  Sorry that I'm not as computer savy as I would like to be.

Try setting it to a higher resolution and check. And since your display has shifted to right, check if you have any buttons on your monitor to adjust the display accordingly.

I have an ACER monitor with 4 buttons on the bottom.  The first is a "return"? type button, the next is "auto and menu", the next is "< and >" and the last is the power.  I have tried ALL of them and none move the display at all!  I thought of that this morning and was expecting it to work.  How I get myself in these situations is beyond me.

Thank you for trying to help.
