Hello,

I am the owner of an Acer Aspire 7741G. The laptop was bought in November of 2010.

Recently, my laptop experienced a shower. The laptop was plugged in and off at the time. I towel dried the whole exterior and waited a day to power on. When attempting to power on, I got the blue light from the power LED to blink every 5 seconds. I decided to take apart the laptop to see what kind of damage I had done. Here are some photos of the motherboard:

What do you guys think? Is it salvageable? Should I look into a new motherboard, or new computer?

Thanks for your help.

Cheers,

Darren

You can replace the MB and hope the Display, keyboard, touchpad, etc. isn't also shorted out. I would junk it if it was mine.

    Thanks for your feedback.

Is this board repairable? I have some soldering experience and access to good equipment.

I don't think it's reparable, the second and third pictures have some burn traces caused by water shorts.

Even if you are able to repair it, it can be momentary since water damage can spread as oxidation through components.

    I'm not an Acer employee.
