Hi

I've a new P276M laptop running Windows 8.1. I can't get it read USB flash storage devices.

The USB ports seem to be working - wireless mouse OK. Also it works fine with an external Seagate hard drive.

I've tried a number of different flash keys - encrypted and non-encrypted. The system 'sees' the device but all I can get in Device Manager is an icon with yellow exclamation mark.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Robin

yellow exclamation mark means missing driver....and it's strange.

please reconnect the USB pen and

    Windows logo key + x
    click on Device manager

if Yellow exclamation mark is present
    double click on it
    choose "Details" tab
    from dropdown menu, select HardwareIDs
click on the first value and copy/paste it here

    Just got this back

    USB\VID_18A5&PID_0302&REV_0302

Is that what your looking for?

    yes, correct.

this is the default mass storage hardwareIDs; try to double click the yellow exclamation mark and force windows to automatically install a driver from the web (need a data connection).

normally this drivers is in any windows installation, maybe it was lost or delete on some way.

    Thanks for looking at this.

I've tried updating the driver - takes a few minutes to search but comes back empty handed...

I'll try it again (I have a couple of other things to do on the machine) and get back.

I pointed the 'update driver' to winsxs folder and it installed smoothly....however when I tried another device of different make it was not recognized. I updated again and all well.

I've shown user how to do this himself if he should meet another flavour of flash key.

    Many thanks!
