Travelmate / Win 7 PRO, SP1: System file corruption problems.

Got a message at boot up that said system had some corrupt files and to run check/scan disk and repair.

Ran check disk at boot, then auto repair. Computer did a bunch of things, couldn't read fast enough. Computer would not boot at all. Ran recover/repair disk and had to reinstall to original system. It would not let me run the option to save my data. Reinstalled all software and carbonite recover of data (hours of time).

All good for a couple of weeks - now same message. To date, I skip disk scan at boot and have been able to continue to use. I do not want to have to spend the time to recover the system again. I have read in some other blogs that this is a problem with WIN 7 after some update, but have not seen a fix.

Has anyone dealt with this issue?

Thanks!

Mark

These are the updates that were causing problems:

    • KB2982791, a security update for kernel-mode drivers.
    • KB2970228, the update introducing support for the Russion Ruble currency symbol.
    • KB2975719, the August Update rollup for Windows RT 8.1, Windows 8.1, and Windows Server 2012 R2.
    • KB2975331, the August Update rollup for Windows RT, Windows 8, and Windows Server 2012.

Go to Programs and Features/Installed Updates and uninstall them if you find them.

Found1: KB2970228 and removed. Reboot and it still wants to run scandisk. Let me reboot and see if I can record the exact message. I'll be back!

    First message:

    Checking file system on c:

The type of the file system is NTFS.

    Volume label is ACER.

One of the disks need to be checked for consistency. You

may cancel the disk check, but it is strongly recommended

    that you continue,

To skip disk checking, press any key within 9 second(s).

    Which I do!

It might be a good idea to run a diagnostic on the HDD. You can get one from the HDDs Manufacturers website or download http://www.hiren.info/pages/bootcd and use Excelstor. Then open a command prompt and run "sfc /scannow" to make sure all the Windows files are there and good.
