Refurbished Iconia A500 screen glitching/no screen rotate/ no warranty

Bought a refurbished A.I.A500 from Amazon back around March, came with only a charger and box. Tip of charger broke in half after three weeks, didn't make the effort to buy a new one until a few weeks ago (they don't sell the correct voltage universal or specific tip in store, had to be from Acer or Amazon). Works well about ten minutes into use, then the screen starts glitching with image/gif-heavy websites such as Facebook, 9Gag, or Pinterest. Images will flicker and screen will not move, I usually have to force shut down that specific app or turn the tablet off and then back on and neither of those solutions last long. Screen rotation literally just stopped working today. Each time I attempt to check for system updates, tablet tells me connected wifi is in a 'poor area'- when I'm practically sitting right next to the box. It was my impression that refurbished items are supoosed to be fixed to work 'like new' (I paid $200), apparently this isn't the case. Is there anything I can do myself before thinking about sending it out? Is it worth it? No warranty either. Any help appreciated, thanks!

here you can find the latest update available:

    http://us.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/drivers/3851;-;A500

select the proper operating system, click on OS and choose the correct build version.

the "poor coverage" is an error message coming from shut-down old Acer FOTA update for android devices, not about your wifi. (bad description)

Have you tried to use Chrome broswer or this happens with both Chrome and stock browser?

9gag is an heavy website for browsers and CPU/ram on tablet devices.

    I'm not an Acer employee.

I will try to download this update and let you know if it works. I use Firefox instead of the browser that is installed

  • Hi,
The app freezing could also be due to High RAM usage, bacground apps could be checked, check if the unit has enough space (Internal space), try to delete cache from Settings > Storage, that too would help,.

That error is a bit of a misnomer... It really means that it wasn't able to connect with the update servers. The update servers for the older machines like the A500 have been shut dwn, so they'll all give the 'poor connection' error.

I have downloaded the necessary updates and have been using it with limited glitching interruption for about four hours now, but now the Google Play Store is frequently freezing and shutting out. I've been doing my force stop "solution". Do you have any advice as to why one image changes into another when viewing imported pictures?

Went into Settings and cleared 12 KB of cache. I don't know if KB is bigger than GB or MB but it's clear, lol. I love learning new things!

KB can be bigger than MB or GB, but only if there are a *lot* of KBs being counted. Smiley Happy

    B * 1024 = KB

    KB * 1024 = MB

    MB * 1024 = GB

    GB + 1024 = TB

TB * 1024 = EB, but it'll be a few years before you need that last one...
