Hi,

My new iconia w3 has Windows 8 originally, and then I have upgraded it to Windows 8.1. If I do the factory reset, will W3 be reset back to Windows 8 or 8.1 ?

If it will be reset back to Windows 8, how can I do the reset without losing Windows 8.1 ?

Thanks

Peter

  • Hi,

On your tablet there is no Recovery partition, so you'd use the Recovery media sent with the tablet, hence the unit would be restored to win 8.

You can ask Windows to perform a refresh (not reset) to clear things up. It will require a reinstall of your apps, but will keep you data and take the OS back down to the basic install. In your case that install will be 8.1 since that's what you are running right now.

A windows reset will go farther, wiping out your data was well, but will still leave you with 8.1.

A factory restore will take the tablet back to it's initial setup. In your case Windows 8.

it wouldn't find the install image of windows 8 if you have upgraded to 8.1 (which upgrade fails to tell you). you may consider creating a custom image (refresh option) and a make a restore usb drive unless you got all the recovery items like external cd rom and media. another important thing to keep in mind is that in order to restore from custom image, you need to have at least 10gb of free disk space, which is extremely hard to do. a lot of people here complain having problems with acer recovery media, too.

8.1 update creates a second recovery partiotion and leaves the original intact. however both are useless. this is pertaining windows store update. i got a 350 and 400mb partitions now and reset doesn't see any of them. how sad.
