Aspire s7-191 uefi bios problem.
I’ve searched the web and found this a common problem but so far not found a cure.
Notebook came with Win 8 installed through uefi bios, no password set.
I wanted to install Win 10 so made a bootable usb stick using the Win7 usb tool. On my uefi bios pc it installed without problem.
On the S7 I suffered the same problem as everyone else who tries to update their machines, uefi bios will not see any bootable device using f12 on boot. As well as Win 7 tool I also used Rufus with settings of ntfs and also fat-ex, uefi cannot see any of the drives. All are visible in legacy bios and work.
Step 2 back into bios select legacy bios secure boot disabled and hey presto f12 will display bootable device and OS installation is successful.
Step 3 reset bios to uefi and attempt to use an original Windows disk image. Impossible as the bios will not see bootable devices. Flip it back to legacy bios and you cannot use a previous disk image as it was made with the uefi in effect.
I really do not understand why Acer makes it so difficult for us to use our machines how we wish by locking everything down. I have had plenty of uefi pc’s and never had any problems like those encountered on Acer laptops.
Why oh why do you have to make us suffer so much, it is not necessary to do so, a laptop is a small pc using the same type components.
The general consensus on the net is to just use legacy bios but I think this a cop out. Has anyone on this site overcome this problem?
TIA for any replies.
