Aspire m5200 front USB ports only partially working after fresh Windows 7 64 bit install

Per the subject line, after a fresh install of Windows 7 64 bit on an Aspire m5200, the front USB ports are not fully functional. I use a Sansa portable music player, and normally after plugging into the front USB ports I should be able to "Write/Read" to the player. When plugging into the front USB ports though, the player defaults to booting to a "playing state" and "re-powering mode". I can plug the Sansa portable music player into the back ports of the Aspire m5200 and I can properly go into write/read mode, so there is a problem with the front ports. After the fresh install I also installed the Aspire drivers, specifically the ATI Chipset Driver 8.632 for Windows 7 64 bit. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

  • Hi,

Apart from this Player, have you used any regular Flash Drives, if yes what happens?

Hi, thanks for getting back to me, yes, I did test it with an external usb drive and the same problem. While the device powered up, it was not recognized and no additional drivers were installed, (as expected).
