I have an Aspire 1830T with up-to-date Win7 64 bit. I thought I was having issues with an external USB 2TB hard drive until I found a forum where a user explained that a drive reported to be unformatted and in RAW format could be read and accessed without issue in WinXP.
Consequently, I reported and requested discussion on the MS site here: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-hardware/windows-7-is-erroneously-reporting-unreadable/dece2b84-2080-464d-bb98-123ddd7848d6
MS responded directly to me and requested that I try the solution given for the topic "USB device not recognized" at this link: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2654149
This support article suggests that it is either a manufacturer or hardware issue.
All my hotfixes and Win updates are current, according to Belarc Advisor.
I do not have a problem with the USB device not working or hanging, so that scenario is irrelevant.
The NVIDIA USB EHCI chipset does not appear to be installed on the 1830T so that sceanrio is irrelvant,
That brings me to few remaining options, one of which is to install the motherboard's latest chipset drivers; however, Acer lists the most recent driver as 2010, which is not recent.
Is this a hardware issue or a Win7 issue? Anyone encountered the problem described in the thread first llinked here? Any other ideas?
