Help! Went to setup and made sure the computer is set to boot off of the new HD, but still get only a blinking cursor on a black screen.

I can't find any instructions on the Acer site that addresses this. Suggestions?

thx

Kathy

you need to boot from DVD/CD to start the restore setup from restore disks, not from the new HDD.

    I'm not an Acer employee.

Yes, I did that. The recovery looked fine, took about 45 mins. So everything is loaded on the new HD, but Windows 7 is not coming up.

I should have been more clear in my description. :-p

I replaced the old HD with a new one, then using the new set of recovery disks I just rec'd from Acer, booted from the CD drive and installed/recovered. Everything ran smoothly and appeared to complete successfully.

Then I went back into setup (F12) and switched "boot from cd" to "boot from hard drive."

Once restarted, the Acer logo comes up briefly then the screen goes black with a blinking cursor.

I assumed the new drive was PNP -- did I need to format/partition it? The instructions just said once installed, the OS could be loaded.

    thx

  • You must to change the order boot in the setup utility and not use F12 to recover.

No, it doesn't have a label. Looks just like the one in the picture.

  • You can see the HDD model in the bios setup utility.

I suggest you to format it without any partitions. I doubt of the HDD quality.Hmmm!!!

Thanks, it's a Western Digital. How do I format it when the Acer disk only allows me to follow its prompts? Here's where we stand right now. acer.jpg
