Acer P3-171 tablet - reinstall the OS from scratch

Morning all,

There are a large number of forum posts concerning the ALT+F10 option to restore the OS however these don't account for the OS not being part of a recovery partition.

I wonder if someone could clarify what to actually do as I have no media to restore from.

Since Windows 8 authenticates from a code in the BIOS could you advise how I can install from my existing reference ISO or how to recreate the restore partition in some other way. I am very familiar with computers and Windows however I am not familiar with Acer's proprietary restoration process. Each link I find leads to different methods which are mostly not suitable for this machine.

    twelveeyedfish,

You are correct that this model is not able to restore using Alt + F10. To restore this computer you would need to contact our technical support in your region and get recovery media. Once you have the USB recovery media, please use the steps found in this article: http://acer.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/32848.

Thanks for your response, I'll persue that in the meantime.

Is it possibly to simply restore it from a standard Windows 8.0 ISO image as I have one of these available as part of Microsoft's development network. The existing licence is still valid and legal in this case but I am unsure whether it will work with this proprietary hardware. My presumption is that it will although the drivers will have to be installed separately after installation.

    Best regards

If you are able to get your own copy of Windows 8 installed it should work with the unit as long as you download and install our drivers found on the support site. But I can assure you the best method is the one I provided as it is the OEM load.

If you use the ACER restore media the bloatware will also be installed. It is always better to do a clean instal of any OS.
