Aspire XC600 Win8 Not booting - 6 Beeps

Hi all,

I'd really apprecaite some help with this issue.  I have an XC600 that's about two years old.

At the end of last week I attempted to restart the computer and it never restarted after a controlled shutdown.

The BIOS doesn't even boot, this is the sequence of events.

  1. Press power button
  2. Fans HDD spin up / keyboard lights flashs / Power light comes on
  3. 6 beeps
  4. HDD light and power light blink.
3. and 4. then repeat until you hold the power button down or pull the power cord.

I've tried Acer Chat they suggested "draining the power" but that didn't do anything.

I'm fairly computer literate and have build computers, but I'm really stumpted here as the BIOS doesn't even seem to boot.

Thanks in advance for any input.

Disconnect ram, HDD and CD/DVD and try to boot to BIOS.

Good, put back the ram one at time and check if BIOS boot.

When I put a either stick in either slot it goes back to the same 6 beeps.

    I have two sticks a 2gb and one 4gb.

The problem is the 6 beeps.....no error code is related to 6 beeps.

We can try to reset CMOS:

unplug the power cord and take off the battery from the mainboard for at least 5 minutes, then put back the battery, plug the power cord and try to boot.

I've tried removing the battery, no improvement. I was a little concerned when the trouble shooting in the manual only went as far so 4 beeps. Not sure what do next. . . . Sleep then who knows.

Thank for all you input.  I have now tried another PSU and the DRAM individually and I still get the same error message.  It's pointing towards the MB.  I realize this is a proprietary MB but does anyone know if it a standard form factor, if so which?

Motherboard looks a mini-ITX standard, the main problem are motherboard connection that are proprietary.

laurent14 can give some infos about the product code, i will ask him to have a look.

  • Hello all,

Sorry for the delay. Yesterday, I was in the garden mowing the lawn!

Here is the part number of motherboard for Aspire XC600 (an only model for all):

    DB.SKQCN.004MAIN BD.EH61.82579V.2DIMM

You can request quotes and order this part from your Acer store (thank you Cory).

Just to close this thread, it seems it was the motherboard.

I replaced it with a Gigabyte GA B75N but looks like any mini ITX board would fit.

I had to mod some of the front panel wiring and the power loom is tight but fits.

The front panel usbs aren't connected yet as I only have used 3 free on the MB but I'll figure that out later.

Booted first time, win 8 didn't even flinch no need to authenticate are anything.

I'm pretty happy as I liked that case,  but really the MB should have lasted that longer.

    Cheers Steve.

  • Hello Steve,

Just for information about AMI bios beep error:

6 beeps: Keyboard controller BAT command failed (mean the super I/O controller is defective).
