acer aspire not resume after sleeping

Hi have a an aspire 7720 .... when I go to let it sleep the screen goes black (normal) but the power button remains green? If I try to awaken the laptop no matter what key is pressed or if I press the power button it doesnt awaken ? I have to power off by holding the power button down for 5 secs to power off and restart again .... I have factory reste the laptop ( its vista ) and ensured all updates are installed ... I have also updated the bios and also the drivers .... yest still I have this problem ...I have a second 7720 ...yet ut has no issues and has never been upgraded, c;eaned etc ....cant get my head around this one can any one help ?
