Acer H236HL menu buttons scrambled

For some reason, the buttons used to navigate the monitor's menu have been completely mixed up. I can't move up or left in any menu. The left button seems to be doing nothing. The exit button does the same thing as the right/down button, and the last button (the "e" button) functions identically to the exit button

So the button under the "e" logo funtions as "exit" Under "exit" functions as the "right" button. Left does nothing. Right works normally.

 

This is very annoying but I'd be able to work around it if any of the buttons functioned as "left/up" in the menu. Up isn't as important since you can keep hitting down and it just sends you to the top again, but I need a left button to adjust brightness, contrast, color, and to navigate presets. As of right now, the menu is unusable.

 

If anyone can possibly help me, or at least explain why this has happened, I'd be very grateful.

This might be a disappointing answer but it's worth a try. Literally an hour ago, I personally "fixed it" by cleaning the lower-right of the screen, and the bezel/buttons with isopropyl alcohol and a soft cloth. I used a fair bit of force but not too much.

 

I don't know if that's what fixed it but I didn't do anything else before I cleaned the screen, and I know the menu wasn't working properly. I cleaned the screen and on a whim decided to try the menus again and all buttons worked properly. I'm ashamed to say that it was the first time cleaning the bezel/buttons since I bought the monitor over a year ago. I hope this helps. I know it seems silly and simple and "too easy", and I don't know if it was just a silly coincidence, so it might be worth a try (if you're anything like me, the buttons need a good cleaning... )
