hello there. my old notebook aspire 5755G somewhat slow (especially at Disk Performace it kills everything) I"m planning to replace my hard drive to solve my problem the preinstalled hard drive is WD6400BPVT (5400 RPM 8MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s). should I get 5400 RPM hard drive or 7200 one (since some notebook can't handle 7200 hard drive) I'm not sure whether my notebook capable or not

I"m also planning to add more RAM. currently it only equiped with single ram (Elpida 4GB DDR3 PC 10600) I'm planning to use 4GB PC 12600 RAM on another slot. will it be okay with 10600 one together

thanks

    Hey there heickelrrx,

You should not have a problem using a 7,200 rpm drive in your laptop. Before changing your drive, I would recommend you run a couple of checks to try to optimize the way your laptop works. Here are some useful things you could do:
    - Download and run WD Data Lifeguard Diagnostic on your drive to check it for errors and bad sectors. Here's a link:
    - Depending on how full your drive is, it could be heavily fragmented so a simple defragmentation from the built-in Windows tool should give you a boost in read/write speed.
    - You could also check the drive for errors from the built-in tool in My Computer.
    - Another thing that you could try is search and download a cleaning program to check your Windows Registry for errors and tidy it up.

If you are going to change your HDD, I would suggest upgrading to 7,200 rpm, maybe upgrade from 8 MB cache to 16 MB. I don't think your laptp supports SATA 3 but it is backwards compatible with SATA 2 nad SATA 1 so you shouldn't have issues with that (just a reduction of speed to SATA 2).
I could suggest you check out WD Blue and WD Black mobile drives. They are reliable and run great. Here are a couple of links:

Also, if you'd like to boost your laptop even more, I could suggest to you the WD Black2. It is a dual drive that combines a 120GB SSD with a 1TB HDD in one for a great performance. Here's a link: http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.aspx?id=1190

Concerning the RAM, it is not recommend to use RAM with different speeds. The new RAM that you are looking at may work but its speed would go down and match the speed of the one that you currently have. I would recommend you look for the same type of RAM that you currently have.

    Hope this helps,

    Captain_WD.
