Acer 1410 - unable to adjust screen brightness

I have an Acer1410 notebook I purchased in 2009. Since about a year ago, I've been unable to adjust screen brightness using the FN arrow keys from Windows 7. The FN arrow keys do adjust screen brightness preboot though.

Wondering if there is a fix for this.

We have no way of knowing what occured a year ago to cause the issue.

It sounds as if something that has been installed on the system and is interfering with the hotkeys operation.

It is not a hardware issue, as you have stated it works when not in Windows.

Have you attempted to start in Safe Mode and check the viability of the brightness controls?

Tommy, I tried adjusting in Safe Mode, it didn't work. Only the display brigtness hotkeys are not working. I'm able to adjust volume with the hotkeys (FNCT - up/down arrow). Is there a BIOS setting that may need to be fixed? Thank you

It is possible that resetting defaults in BIOS may work, but I'm sceptical.

I'm going to assume that the arrow keys work properly by themselves, just not the FN portion for brightness.
